The prospect of 2050 is to be independent

The regional council of southern Småland and The county administrative board of Kronoberg are responsible. They are fostered by the Energy agency for southeast Sweden.

Some objectives for the region:
The discharge of carbon dioxide from direct use of fossil fuels in Kronoberg will be decreased to 3500 kilograms/year and inhabitant until 2010. Half the total of the energy use will have their source from renewable sources until 2010.

The objective for the prospect of 2050 is to be independent of fossil fuels.

Energikontor Sydost

The Energy Agency for South-east Sweden, was established in 1999 as an EU project under the Association of Local and Regional Authorities in Kronoberg. The reason was the increased global and European focus on climate change, reinforcing the need for qualified and impartial players in the energy and transport field.

Since 2007 activities have been operated under the Energy Agency for South-east Sweden Ltd. The company is jointly owned by an association where regional councils, counties and municipalities are members. The Energy Agency has approximately 20 employees with the headquarter in Växjö.

Activities in the energy sector

The Energy Agency is working to initiate, coordinate and implement projects aimed at improving the energy efficiency and increased supply of renewable energy in all sectors of society. The agency works strategically and systematically to link the projects at the local and regional level with the projects of the European and international market.

Local North Sea SEP projects

An important pilot action in Kronoberg is to foster existing networks and to facilitate the establishing of new networks. We will make in cooperation with the regional council of southern Småland and the municipality of Växjö.

Characteristics from the energy perspective

The use of energy is in Kronoberg in total  7000 GWh/y with about 30 % as bioenergy and RES in total about 46 %.

The electricity in region is to almost 60 % generated from renewables inside and outside the region. In Kronoberg more than 20 % of the electricity demand is generated locally in wind power stations, hydro power stations, CHP plants as well as in industrial back pressure power plants.

District heating increase significantly during the last two decades and today approximately 1 TWh in Kronoberg. Biofuels supply more than 90 % of the district heating.
